Police in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa have arrested a wanted extortionist Linda Hlongwa, who is commonly known as ‘Mjinja’ or ‘Putin’ for the m8rder of his girlfriend and her mother.
‘Mjinja’ was arrested in Midrand, Gauteng province on Tuesday afternoon, 15 April 2025.
His 22-year-old girlfriend and her 52-year-old mother who were shot and k!lled at their home on Income Road at Nazareth in Pinetown on 18 March 2025.
It was gathered that Hlongwa was arrested on 20 July 2020 after he was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition on Ukuthula Street at St Wendolins in Mariannhill and was released from custody pending ballistic results.
Since then he has ignored summons to appear in court to face his charges.
‘Mjinja’ is also wanted in connection with a string of extortion cases in which he is alleged to be terrorising business people.
Mjinja’ is believed to have been extorting money from scholar transport owners, tuckshop owners, and local taxis in the areas of Mariannhill and the nearby townships.
Police in KwaZulu-Natal are thankful to community members who provided valuable information which led to the arrest of ‘Mjinja’.
