Man kills his brother’s wife with pestle, injures 6-year-old girl in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly killing his younger brother’s wife and injuring a six-year-old girl in Gunka Village, Jahun Local Government Area.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued Thursday in Dutse. He said the suspect, whose name was not disclosed, allegedly attacked the victims with a pestle on Wednesday evening.

“The tragic incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m, prompting an immediate response from a patrol team to the scene,” Shiisu said.

He explained that the victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Jahun for medical attention. “One of victims identified as Ummi Sale aged 20, died while on admission, while the other identified as Hauwa Alkasim, aged six, is still responding to treatment.”

The motive for the attack remains unclear. However, preliminary information suggests the suspect may be mentally unstable.

Shiisu noted that a comprehensive medical evaluation would be carried out to ascertain the mental health of the suspect.

According to him, the remains of the deceased have been handed over to her family for burial, in accordance with Islamic rites.

The police have placed the suspect in custody as investigations continue. Shiisu further assured the public of the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
