The victim, identified as Mr. Onche Akatu, was shot at his residence around 7:00 p.m. He succumbed to his injuries early Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, another man, Mr. Ocheche, was kidnapped near the scene while on his way home.
Eyewitnesses report that the attackers struck suddenly, leaving the community in fear. Many residents were seen fleeing the area due to the rising cases of violent crimes, including kidnappings and killings.
A local source, speaking anonymously, confirmed the tragic events, stating, *”Mr. Akatu Onche was shot by suspected kidnappers around 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sadly, he did not survive the gunshots and passed away early Tuesday morning. The assailants also abducted a man nearby and took him to an unknown destination.”*
Efforts to reach the Benue State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Catherine Anene, for comments were unsuccessful, as she did not respond to calls at the time of filing this report.
