Unknown assailants have reportedly shot and killed a lawyer and activist, Barrister Mike Ofikwu, in Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident took place on Wednesday night, 20 November 2024.
A resident of Otukpo, who requested anonymity, told newsmen in Makurdi on Thursday that the lawyer was shot at his house on Otukpa Street, Otukpo.
According to sources close to the lawyer’s residence, he was attacked upon returning home. While attempting to open his door, two gunmen swiftly approached and shot him.
The lawyer was rushed to the hospital immediately but was pronounced dead on arrival.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Benue State Command, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident.
The PPRO, who commiserated with the bereaved family, assured them of justice.
In a telephone message, Anene said: “This incident is confirmed, and investigation is ongoing. I commiserate with his family and friends and assure them that justice will be served.”
