Jigawa police arrest man for defrauding people with fake dollars

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Aminu Bala who allegedly defrauded people using fake US dollars.
The spokesperson of the command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, August 25, 2024, said the suspect was arrested after one Alhaji Sani Muhammad reported a case of fraud.
“On 30/7/2024 at about 1200hrs, one Alhaji Sani Muhammad ‘m’ age 50yrs from Kano state, reported a case of fraud at Kiyawa Divisional Police Headquarters that, on the 29th of July 2024 at about 1000hrs, unknown individuals at Nafara village, B/kudu LGA, deceived him and collected the sum of two million naira in cash (N2,000,000.00k) under the false pretence of exchanging it dollars (USD),” the statement read.
“Upon receiving the report, the Rapid Response Team attached to the Division promptly initiated an investigation, visiting the scene and conducting a thorough inquiry.
“Luckily, one Aminu Bala ‘m’ age 30yrs of Tambuwal LGA of Sokoto state was arrested in connection to the case, and the following items were recovered in his possession which was considered as an exhibit; a small box containing 321 pieces of counterfeit 100 notes of US dollars, a red boxer motorcycle with registration number KSF 538 QJ and cash of fifty-nine thousand eight hundred and twenty naira (N59,820.00).
“Following a covert investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, the suspect disclosed that both the motorcycle and the money he was carrying had been taken from one Abdulrauf Sulaiman of Kwatai village, B/kudu LGA, who had also been tricked.
“Similarly, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence allegedly against him. He has since been arraigned before the court.”
