  • Neymar has described Kylian Mbappe as a “phenomenon” after the Paris Saint-Germain teenager scored four goals in 13 minutes.

The 19-year-old striker scored four times between the 61st and 74th minutes as PSG thrashed Lyon 5-0, with his hat-trick coming in the space of eight minutes.

Mbappe won the best young player award at the World Cup in Russia where he was the first teenager to score in a final since Pele in 1958.

“For me he’s a phenomenon. I hope it will continue like that for several years because football will thank him,” said his PSG team-mate Neymar.

Mbappe is the youngest player in the past 45 seasons to score four goals in a single French league game.

It was PSG’s ninth Ligue 1 win in a row since the start of the season, and eclipsed the 82-year-old record set by Olympique Lillois during the 1936-37 campaign.

    After the match Mbappe said:

“The most important thing is the work of a whole team and the record of the day.

“I will insist on the collective. We wanted to win and make history in this championship. We wanted this record.

“We have a new coach, a new philosophy, and we show that we can adapt.”
